????Wanshou Pagoda is a long- distance beacon tower navigating boats from ocean waters to coastal waters. Built between 1131 and 1162 during the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, the pagoda is an octagonal- shaped, five- storeyed stone structure built with huge granite rock, with a total height of 22.68m and a base width of 6.815m. It is unadorned and simplistic, with smart design, unique structure, stable gravity center and spectacular appearance, fully demonstrating the superb craftsmanship of artisans in Quanzhou during the Song Dynasty. Wanshou Pagoda has long been respected as a symbol of hometown by Quanzhou people engaged in maritime navigation or trade and as a landmark indicating the destination of China by foreign merchant ships.
