????Zhenwu Temple is an important historic monument that exhibits the sea god belief of ancient Quanzhou. First built between 967 and 973 (Northern Song Dynasty), the temple occupies an area of 3,000 square meters and a floor space of over 400 square meters. Set against hillside, it is an architectural complex of smart design, consisting of the entrance gate, the pavilion and the main hall, among others. Zhenwu Temple enshrines Zhenwu Dadi, the second-generation sea god in Quanzhou who is believed to have the divine power of safeguarding the sea and bringing safety. It was also where officials of Quanzhou hosted religious rituals to offer sacrifices to the sea god and pray for the safety of voyages during the 10th-13thcenturies.
